Two found dead

in South Delhi

NEW DELHI: Two men were found dead in a house under highly mysterious circumstances at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi on Wednesday night.

According to the police, the bodies of Akhtar (50) and Jamshed Alam, who was in his late 30s, were discovered on Wednesday night after people began complaining about foul smell emanating from their accommodation at Shaheen Bagh in Sarita Vihar. The bodies were decomposed. The police suspect that the two may have been strangled to death but are waiting for the post-mortem report before arriving at any conclusion.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men lived together.

They did not have permanent jobs, but one of them used to lend money on interest.

NEW DELHI: Two persons were stabbed to death and another was injured in a brawl that took place between gatecrashers and managers of a marriage ceremony at Dabri in South-West Delhi on Wednesday night. Six persons have been arrested in this connection.

Four held for stealing mobile phones

NEW DELHI: Four persons allegedly involved in stealing mobile phones in moving buses and an alleged receiver of the stolen property have been arrested by the South Delhi police. The police have recovered 99 stolen mobile phones from them.

According to the police, the kingpin of the gang, Yasin alias Wasim Raja, was arrested when he was trying to steal a mobile phone in a bus plying on route No. 469 on Wednesday. At his instance, the police arrested three more of his accomplices, Dinesh, Hemant and Riyaz, and also the receiver of the stolen property, Ashok Kumar, who owned a mobile phone shop in Sangam Vihar.

Interrogation of the accused allegedly revealed that they would board buses plying on outer Ring Road or route No. 469 and steal the phones. Eight women arrested

NEW DELHI: Eight women allegedly involved in pickpocketing in buses have been arrested by the East Delhi police.

According to the police, Deepa, a convent school teacher living in Dilshad Garden, had boarded a bus plying on route No. 473 on Wednesday. At Laxmi Nagar T-point in Shakarpur, a group of women boarded the bus and surrounded her. One of them then took out the wallet kept in her handbag.

Ms. Deepa raised an alarm after which the driver stopped the bus near Nathu sweets. With the help of the public, the police managed to nab all the members of the gang. Those arrested have been identified as Imla, Shanti, Sarita, Lalita, Kamla, Kishni, Meera and Asha. Further investigations are on to ascertain their other involvements.

Two businessmen held

NEW DELHI: Two businessmen were arrested from the IGI International Airport here on Thursday morning while trying to `smuggle' more than 50,000 dollars out of the country.

Sandeep Garg and Vineet Goel were arrested at about 10 a.m. after 51,170 dollars, amounting to about Rs.23 lakh, were found stuffed in `agarbatti' packets kept in their bags, according to a police official.

The two were to board an Emirates flight, bound for Dubai.
