  • Congress urged to hold introspection meet
  • Diwakar charged with encouraging factional killings
  • Government failed to curb essential commodities prices

MAKING A POINT: TDP leader from Tadipatri Peram Nagi Reddy speaking at a dharna staged by the party in front of Collectorate at Anantapur on Friday.

ANANTAPUR: The district unit of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Friday alleging that the Congress Government in the State had failed on all fronts.

Its leaders said the ruling party to hold an introspection meet instead of the re-dedication meet planned to be held on the occasion of the Congress Government's completion of two years in office.

Party's Polit Bureau member and former MP K. Srinivasulu alleged that Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy was encouraging political and factional killings in the district. Key suspects in the murder cases of TDP leaders — Paritala Ravindra and K. Suryapratap Reddy — had surrendered themselves to the police reflecting the functioning of the administration and intentions of the Government.

The police had failed to arrest even one key suspect in both cases, Mr. Srinivasulu said. The Government had failed to control essential commodities' prices which were burdening the life of the poor, Kalyanadurg legislator B.C. Govindappa said. Former Minister N. Kistappa said Congress leaders were forgetting welfare of people.

    Corruption all over

Corruption was ruling the roost at all levels in the State Government as ruling party leaders were exploiting the public exchequer with irregularities in irrigation projects and tenders of other major works, former MLA P. Raghunatha Reddy said. He said about 3,500 farmers had committed suicide in the State in the Congress rule so far. Party leader from Tadipatri P. Nagi Reddy alleged that the Congress had taken up the agenda of killing legislators and former legislators of the TDP.
