NEW DELHI: There is every possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party moving an adjournment motion in Parliament on the growing violence in Jammu and Kashmir, president Rajnath Singh said on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, two persons were killed and four critically injured when terrorists launched a grenade attack on a BJP demonstration in Doda.

The matter was discussed and a final decision would be taken by office-bearers of the BJP parliamentary party on Monday morning.

The BJP said the attacks were aimed at forcing Hindus out of the region.

Joshi panel

The issue was discussed at a meeting of the party office-bearers chaired by Mr. Singh here — senior leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani attended as special invitees. Mr. Singh set up a seven-member committee, headed up Murli Manohar Joshi, to finalise details of a nationwide protest.

Mr. Singh said Mr. Advani would visit Doda on Sunday and on May 15 the BJP would organise a rally there, which he would attend.

"UPA's soft towards ultras"

The spurt in violence was the "direct result of the United Progressive Alliance Government's soft approach to terrorists as compared to the National Democratic Alliance regime." Mr. Singh also blamed the state of affairs on "appeasement" of Muslim fundamentalists. The repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act "sent a clear signal that the UPA was soft towards terrorists".

Village defence panels

The BJP demanded protection for villagers and increased presence of the police and the Army, besides the setting up village defence committees. Mr. Singh alleged that troops had been reduced and military operations against terrorists were not effective.

"Shirking responsibility"

He dismissed as a case of "shirking responsibility" Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's comment that the BJP was also fishing in troubled waters.
