Manmohan to visit VSP

VISAKHAPATNAM: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will spend two hours in the city on May 20 morning to lay the foundation for the second phase of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). 150 taken ill

Sangareddy: Over 150 people including 50 children fell sick after consuming food at a wedding in Siddipet on Sunday night. Guests who had their dinner at the Madina function hall started complaining of nausea. All of them have been admitted in local hospitals. Doctors said they were all out of danger. - Staff Reporter

Advance supplementary

HYDERABAD: May 20 is the last date for remittance of the SSC advance supplementary examination fee by the failed candidates to the heads of schools concerned. The examinations are to be held from May 29 to June 10. The fee for recounting of marks per subject is Rs. 150, while the exam fee for three subjects and below is Rs. 90. For over three subjects it is Rs. 100. - Special Correspondent

ECET-FDH on May 18

TIRUPATI: The Engineering Common Entrance Test for diploma-holders (ECET-FDH) for 2006 will be conducted across the State from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 18. ECET-FDH regional coordinator N.C. 150 houses gutted

Srikakulam: In a major fire accident in Panjangi village near Amadalalvalasa on Sunday night nearly 150 houses were reduced to ashes in a matter of a few hours. Property worth Rs. 50 lakhs was destroyed and one person was injured. On Saturday night in another fire in Lumburu near Palakonda more than 50 houses were gutted. - Special Correspondent

Course in herbal biotechnology

TIRUPATI: Kuppam-based Dravidian University is planning to offer an M.Sc course in herbal biotechnology from 2006-07. Certificate courses in yoga and physiotherapy are also being planned. CHITTOOR: Revenue employees attended to their duties wearing black badges here on Monday in protest against the suspension of two employees for not issuing ration cards to political leaders at Palamangalam. MADANAPALLE: In the rural areas six-hour power cut and in the urban areas only two-hour shutdown is being implemented, according to CMD of southern distribution company K. Gopal Reddy. He urged farmers not to raise kharif crop now. He later inspected the sub-station at Punganur. - Correspondent

CPI workers arrested

ADILABAD: The One Town police on Monday arrested 10 CPI workers on the charges of trespassing and obstructing Government officials from discharging their duties. A complaint was lodged by Depuy Executive Engineer of Housing Corporation Alim Bin Yahya. The workers allegedly used vulgar language.
