BSNL awards for meritorious staff

Decorations include Bharat Sanchar Sarathi and Sanchar Seva Padak

CHENNAI: The southern telecom region of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) presented performance awards for 2005 and 2006 on Wednesday. The decorations included Bharat Sanchar Sarathi awards for staff and Sanchar Seva Padak for officers for 2006 and the regional and sub regional best station awards for 2005. BSNL Board instituted the Sanchar Seva Padak award scheme in 2001 to recognise the meritorious and exemplary work of officers in the organisation. Six women officers — four from the Chennai southern telecom region and one each from Thanjavur and Ernakulam — won the Sanchar Seva Padak. The award comprises a cash component of Rs. 11,000, certificate and citation.

Eight employees from the southern telecom region, including one each from Cuddalore, Madurai, Coimbatore and Ernakulam and four from Chennai were the recipients of the Bharat Sanchar Sarathi Awards, comprising a cash component of Rs. 11,000, silver medal, shawl, certificate and citation. The awards are given to meritorious employees in the group `C' and group `D' category.

Sanchar Sarathi Awards instituted by the Department of Telecommunications in 1990 were renamed as Bharat Sanchar Sarathi Awards on formation of BSNL in 2000. The award for best maintained stations at regional level was instituted in 1987. The transmission centres have been classified under several categories, based on the work they do. Chennai and Madurai sub regions in Tamil Nadu and Ernakulam sub region in Kerala won the awards under the regional/sub regional best station awards-2005 category.

The outdoor unit of Virudhunagar in Madurai sub region won the regional best station award. Small Mux of Dharmapuri and outdoor unit of Sangagiri sub division were given the sub regional best station award in the Chennai sub region category.

Small Mux of Pathanamthitta and the outdoor unit of Idukki sub division of Ernakulam sub region also won the sub regional best station awards.
