Rangasamy sworn in for second successive term

NEW INNINGS: N. Rangasamy being sworn in by Lt. Governor M. M. Lakhera on Thursday.

Pondicherry: N. Rangasamy was sworn in as the16th Chief Minister of Pondicherry at an impressive function in Raj Nivas here on Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony lasted just 15 minutes. Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Rangasamy, who assumed office for the second successive term as Chief Minister.

He took the oath in Tamil and in the name of God.

Earlier, Chief Secretary C.S. Khairwal read out the notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, containing the Presidential warrant appointing Mr. Rangasamy as Chief Minister.

All-India Congress Committee delegates Motilal Vora, P. Sudhakar Reddy, B.K. Hariprasad and V. Narayanasamy; Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugham; Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Pondicherry State committee convener R.V. Janakiraman; Speaker of the outgoing Assembly M.D.R. Ramachandran; former Chief Minister S. Ramassamy; political leaders and newly elected legislators from Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions; French Consul-General in Pondicherry Michel Seguy and officials of the Pondicherry Administration were among those present.

Mr. Rangasamy, a bachelor, appeared with a gleaming face, acknowledging the greetings of his well-wishers.

After he was sworn in, Mr. Rangasamy, accompanied by party legislators and AICC delegates, walked into the Raj Nivas to meet the Lt. Governor.
