ALAPPUZHA: Minister G. Sudhakaran has said the Government will take steps to rejuvenate the cooperative sector and convert it as a supporting pillar of agriculture and small scale industrial sectors. The Minister added that the Government would take steps to make the cooperative sector function in its true spirit. He was speaking to mediapersons after visiting the Kunchan Nambiar memorial at Ambalappuzha and Sankaramanagalam House, Takazhi, which was the home of the late Takazhi Sivasankara Pillai and his memorial on the compound of his home on Friday. Mr. Sudhakaran said the Government would also take steps to better the functioning of the Academy for Professional Education, which was started during the period of the previous LDF government.
Pays homage
Mr. Sudhakaran laid wreaths on the memorial of Kunchan Nambiar and Takazhi Sivasankara Pillai. He said the Government would take steps to implement development activities at the Kunchan Nambiar memorial. These include construction of a rest house for writers, he said. The Minister also promised to consider the demand for raising the grant being given to the memorial to Rs.1.5 lakhs. Mr. Sudhakaran said the home of Takazhi Sivasankara Pillai would be developed on the lines of the Shakespeare memorial at Stratford Upon Avon. Mr. Sudhakaran held discussions with Katha, wife of Takazhi Sivasankara Pillai. The Minister also inspected a building of the Kunchan Nambiar Memorial at Ambalappuzha damaged by anti-socials.
Promises action
He promised strong action against those who damaged public property. The Minister was accompanied by Kunchan Nambiar memorial chairman Nedumudy Harikumar and secretary Shaji Pandavath during his visit of the memorial.
