BELLARY: The Bellary Zilla Panchayat has prepared a Rs. 137.25-crore annual action plan. The grant will be utilised to implement 189 projects in the district. Giving details of the action plan here on Friday, Durgamma and K.A. Ramalingappa, president and vice-president of the zilla panchayat, said the panchayat would implement 130 projects for which Rs. 42.98 crore had been earmarked. Forty-two projects would be implemented by taluk panchayats for which Rs. 41.11 crore had been earmarked. Seventeen programmes would be implemented by gram panchayats for which Rs. 53.16 crore had been set aside. They said priority had been accorded to education with an allocation of Rs. 32.21 crore of which 28 per cent was towards salary. The rest would be spent on the implementation of the Akshara Dasoha and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan schemes, construction of classrooms under a NABARD scheme, and books and other equipment for the disabled. It had been decided to provide midday meals to 2.85 lakh children studying in 1st to 7th standards under the Akshara Dasoha scheme. It had been proposed to complete 238 and 204 classrooms in primary and high schools, respectively. Under the Vidya Vikas programme, it had been proposed to distribute free uniforms to three lakh schoolchildren, they said. For rural drinking water supply, Rs. 2.08 crore had been earmarked. The zilla panchayat would organise training programmes at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 lakh.
