Good response to Pulse Polio drive

RMC personnel to administer drops in all 41 wards in city

Srikakulam: District Collector A. Koteswara Rao, who inaugurated the Pulse Polio programme by administering polio drops to a child at the Santhoshi Maa temple here on Sunday, asserted that there was overwhelming response to the programme.

In all 2.85 lakh children were identified in the district for the immunisation and 3.80 lakh doses of vaccines were distributed to various centres, he said.

Srikakulam MP Kinmjarapu Yerrannanidu, ZP chairman Y. V. Suryanarayana, Srikakulam municipal chairperson M. V. Padmavathi and others participated in the programme.

Six lakh children in EG

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam on Sunday launched the second round of intensified Pulse Polio programme by administering polio vaccine to children at the Maternity Centre in Recherlapet area here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said though the district was free from polio cases since last five years, immunisation of children below five years of age was taken up as a precautionary measure, in view of its incidence in neighbouring States.

He said six lakh children would be immunized during the three-day period through 3,250 polio booths and 101 mobile centres.

A total of 12,000 personnel were on the job including medical and health staff, volunteers, NGO workers and woman self-help groups.

Zilla Parishad chairman Dunna Janardhana Rao, MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna and Mayor K. Saroja also administered polio drops to the children.

M. Suryanarayana Divisional Revenue Officer, Ch. Kumaraswamy, Project Director DRDA, Jayaram, DMHO, B. Phanindra, District Immunization Officer, M. Pavan Kumar, District AIDS Control Society nodal officer and others were present.

RMC plan

Rajahmundry: The Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation has announced that it is committed to make the city polio-free in next few months.

This announcement was made by Mayor M. S. Chakravarti along with MLA R. Suryaprakasha Rao and Commissioner C. Sudarshan Reddy.

After administering polio drops to children in one of the wards in the city on Sunday, Mr. Rao said the State Government was committed to totally eradicate polio.

Mr. Chakravarti said that the RMC chalked out a comprehensive plan to administer polio drops in all 41 wards in the city.

Corporator Chunnilal Jaju and others participated in the programme.
