Nethaji (Chennai) enters semifinals

KAYALPATNAM: Nethaji SC (Chennai) entered the semifinals of the 41st Moulana Abul Kalam Azad memorial trophy all-India football tournament defeating Titanium (Thiruvananthapuram) 1-0 here on Sunday.

The all-important goal came in the 56th minute. Striker Nataraja Murugan met a free kick, taken by midfielder Kali, inside the penalty area and shot the ball over the head of a charging custodian Anil.

Earlier, Nethaji missed two good scoring chances in the first session. Satheesh's powerful shot from near the top of the box hit the upright and rebounded and then Kausik missed a sitter from close quarters.

Titanium had a golden opportunity of equalising in injury tine. But Usman, who was well placed to score, sent the ball out. — Sports Correspondent
