TNSP retains trophy

MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Special Police retained the Kothaiammal Memorial Trophy defeating G.K. Motors Hockey Club, Madurai 5-3 via tie breaker in the final of the State-level hockey tournament at the Thai Matriculation HSS ground, Vadipatti near here on Sunday.

A.G. Kannan scored first for G.K. Motors and Pradeep equalised for Police. In the tie-breaker, Pradeep, Muthupandy, Krishnakumar and Palanivel Nathan scored for Police. Richard and Ramadas scored for G.K. Motors.

Earlier in the third place match, United Sports Club, Nilgiris beat host Evergreat Hockey Club 2-1.

Rajesh scores 151

A sparkling 151 by P. Rajesh helped Nike CC, Oddanchatram, defeat Majestic CC by 104 runs in the Dindigul DCA first division cricket league in Dindigul.

The scores: Nike 288 in 36.2 overs (P. Rajesh 151, T.T hirumalai Raj 45, R. Chandrasekaran four for 75) bt Majestic 184 in 41.3 overs (V. Dharmendran 46, V. Ravi four for 41).

APCC Pillayarnatham 250 for seven in 44 overs (A. Ramakrishnan 65, S. Sakthivel 75) bt Sam Babu XI 186 in 39 overs (M. Rahim 46, N. Murugesan 65, M.S. Muthuvivekanandan five for 45).

Prabhakar advances

Prabhakar defeated Vinoth Kumar 6-1 to reach the semifinals of the men's open annual knock-ut tennis tournament at the City Club tennis courts in Tiruchi on Sunday.

HAL beats Karur BC

HAL (Bangalore) defeated Karur Basketball Club 66-29 in the inaugural match of the 51st LRG Naidu Memorial Cup, all India basketball tournament in Karur on Sunday.

Umashankar top scored with 18 points and Rajkumar managed 16 points for the winning team. For Karur BC, Prabhakar and Mohammed Ameen scored eight points each.

In another match Southern Railway edged out BEL (Bangalore) 86-66. Saravana Rajan scored 29 points for the winner.
