Lord Hanuman now in new avatars

BABY HANUMAN: Transformation in the publishing industry

He has proven to be the most powerful god in the animated version. And after proving his prowess on the big screen, Lord Hanuman has decided to take on a new form -- this time in comic books. Bringing in the age of "desi" superheroes, Hanuman will now be available in six different languages -- Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada.

"Percept Picture Company is extending the universality of the appeal of Baby Hanuman to more and more interactive platforms for children. We are confident that Hanuman will achieve a similar transformation in the publishing industry like what it has achieved for the animated industry.

Percept Picture Company is glad to license `Hanuman' to Diamond Books and hopes that they would leverage their extensive distribution reach to keep Bajrangbali alive in the hearts and minds of millions of Indian children,'' said Percept Picture Company Chief Operating Officer Mahesh Ramanathan.

The perfect time to launch the comic books with kids being on summer vacation, the Diamond Group of Publications believes that these comics will certainly be able to cross over to reading. Apart from being a success on the large screen, the sales of DVD and VCDs of the movie have also done well. Growing bigger like the myths about him, "Hanuman'' will also be shown on TV on Sahara One as well as on Disney Channel that is planning to serialise the movie.

Not restricting his appeal to merely the entertainment segment, Percept Picture Company is planning to enter into similar licensing arrangements for Hanuman merchandise. -- Mandira Nayar
