Court to take up his application on July 27

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim bail to R.K. Sharma, prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, saying that the Court would take up his application for consideration on July 27 when his other pending application for regular bail was scheduled for hearing.

Sharma had sought interim bail on the ground that he was suffering from an ailment in his spine. However, Justice B.D. Ahmed of the High Court directed the trial court to consider Sharma's request for handing over the gist of the statement of Rakesh Bhatnagar, husband of Shivani Bhatnagar, and decide his plea as per the law.

Mr. Justice Ahmed had last month refused to grant regular bail to Sharma, who is a former Inspector-General (Prisons) of the Haryana police. However, the Judge had kept his application pending saying that its fate would depend on the progress of the trial of the case. The Court had taken an undertaking from the prosecution to the effect that it would conclude the examination of the remaining prosecution witnesses in the case by July-end or thereabout.
