Indian software companies have a strong presence in the top 20 of the Global Outsourcing 100 (G100) list released recently by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP), a global consortium of leading companies in outsourcing as customers, providers, and advisors.
IBM topped the list followed by Sodexho Alliance, Accenture, Hewlett Packard, and Capgemini.
Wipro Technologies was seventh on the list, which is available at the IAOP Web site.
Other Indian companies, such as HCL Technologies, Mastek, Genpact (a GE spin-off), and Patni Computer, were among the top 20, which included US-based companies such as Cognizant and Lason.
The 100 firms on the list represent $68.9 billion in 2005 revenues and 1.03 million employees worldwide, providing services to companies such as GM, Ford, Citigroup, Bank of America, ExxonMobil, and Verizon.
The US dominates ownership of the outsourcing industry with 63 of the G100. India has four, the UK six, Canada and China four each, Russia three, and Singapore, the Philippines and France two each.
IAOP's global membership encompasses almost 250 organisations around the world representing every industry segment and functional activity.
Rising Stars
In the `Rising Stars' segment, offshore firms and firms owned and located in India and China lead.
Some of the prominent Indian companies in this category include Tech Mahindra, MphasiS, 24/7 Customer, Zensar, eFunds, Satyam Computer, Ness Technologies, Progeon, MindTree, KPIT Cummins, ICIC OneSource, NIIT SmartServe, and Datamatics.Companies were selected based on applications submitted for review by a panel of judges.
The applications took the perspective of companies analysing the value of outsourcing.

The panel of judges included Mr David Barrett of Simmons & Simmons, UK, Mr Michael F. Corbett, Executive Director of IAOP, Mr Atul Vashistha, CEO of neoIT, and Dr Tina Dacin, Queen's School of Business (Canada).
