Ex-MLA of Badvel set to join Congress

KADAPA: The Congress has cleared the decks for readmitting former MLA of Badvel and TDP leader V. Sivaramakrishna Rao into the party at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on May 28. Dr. Rao's readmission into the party was finalised during discussions with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the APCC president, APCC member Makam Ashok Kumar told The Hindu over telephone from Hyderabad. Known to be a staunch follower of Dr. Reddy, Dr. Rao quit the Congress before the 2004 Assembly elections peeved at the party finalising the candidature of current MLA D.C. 2 aides of naxal held

BELLARY: The Bellary police have arrested two persons, said to be associates of Ranga Reddy, a naxalite, wanted by the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh police. Additional SP D.C. Rajappa said in a press release that Ghouse, a lathe operator in Bellary, and Pal Shivaiah, a resident of Metri, were arrested based on information provided by Kumar, a close aide of Ranga Reddy, who has already been arrested. Ranga Reddy is wanted by the Andhra police in connection with misuse of firearms and explosives. - Correspondent

Hyderabad: SSC advanced supplementary examination will commence on May 29 from 9.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Headmasters, correspondents of Government-aided or unaided schools have been urged to collect nominal rolls, failed memo and hall tickets of failed candidates from the Director of Government Examinations, Hyderabad, and issue to those taking the exam at the earliest. - Staff Reporter

Woman dies due to doctor's negligence?

Sangareddy: A mother of two died allegedly due to negligence of a private nursing home doctor in Narsapur. According to the police, Moddu Manemma (38), a resident of Narayanpur, was brought to Narsapur in a state of advanced pregnancy on Wednesday. During the surgery, the doctor allegedly could not control internal bleeding and asked Manemma's family to rush her to Balanagar. But Manemma died early on Thursday. - Staff Reporter

Woman ends life with two children

ADILABAD: A woman (26) along with her son and daughter, aged six and four years respectively, committed suicide by jumping into the Godavari near Luxettipet in Adilabad district late on Wednesday night. The bodies were fished out on Thursday morning. - Staff Reporter

ICET conducted

WARANGAL: ICET-2006 conducted by Kakatiya University for admission into MBA and MCA courses throughout the State on Thursday went off peacefully. A total of 1,30,299 candidates appeared for the test conducted at 48 centres, according to Convener V. Gangadhar. - Staff Reporter

Reservoir work resumes

VIZIANAGARAM: Work on Peddagedda reservoir project resumed on Thursday following Collector B. Kishore's assurance to displaced persons that relief and rehabilitation package as per guidelines would be given. Woman commits suicide

NANDYAL: A woman identified as Anjanamma committed suicide by jumping into KC Canal at Nandyal on Thursday.

She hailed from Indiranagar in Kurnool.

In another incident, two basket weavers - Nagaraju and Umakanthaiah accused the police of beating them up in a private dispute. They were admitted to hospital.

DCCB staff strike today

KADAPA: Employees of the District Cooperative Central Bank will go on a day's strike on Friday as part of their phased agitation.

DCCB employees association secretary Y. Pratap Reddy said they have been on a warpath since May 11, demanding implementation of demands pending for nearly a decade.

Undertrial dies

KURNOOL: An undertrial identified as Chinna Subbanna of Sakunala village in Orvakal mandal died of heart attack in the sub-jail here on Thursday. According to reports, he was taken into custody in a harassment case. His daughter-in-law committed suicide and he figured as accused. He complained of chest pain around noon and died immediately. — Staff Reporter

Rs. 114.94-crore works executed

KURNOOL: Zilla Parishad chairman B. Ventramudu said during his five-year tenure development works costing Rs 114.94 crores were executed. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the Zilla Parishad gave priority to creation of permanent public utility assets, which would go a long way in improving the living conditions of people. — Staff Reporter
