Tambaram: A 42-year-old man died on Wednesday after he was hit by a lorry travelling on the wrong direction at Kadaperi near Tambaram on the Grand Southern Trunk Road. Nagappan and his wife Kaali, from Porur, had visited relatives in Ganapathypuram, East Tambaram. They were returning home when the accident took place. Instead of taking a `U' turn at the signal near the Tambaram Taluk Office, the lorry travelled in the wrong direction, and knocked down the motorcycle. Nagappan sustained serious injuries, was hospitalised and died on Wednesday, police said. This accident is only the latest in a series of accidents involving callous drivers of heavy vehicles. There seems to be no end to the menace caused by lorries, resulting in the loss of innocent lives. Unless police crackdown on reckless driving by the lorries, it is unlikely to stop, residents said. V. Vinayagam, a resident of Melvangaiyur in Villupuram district, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. The victim was travelling on a motorcycle when the unidentified vehicle hit him at Pallikaranai on the Velachery Main Road.
