One-lane traffic

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The authorities have decided to allow only one-lane traffic in the vicinity of the Valara Bridge on the Madurai-Kochi stretch of NH 49 until further orders. This is being done as there is danger of landslip in the area. — Special Correspondent

Two killed as jeep falls into gorge

Idukki: Two people were killed and three seriously injured when their jeep lost control and fell into a deep gorge at Pullupara near Kuttikanam here on Saturday. The police identified the deceased as the former Elappara grama panchayat secretary George and Shyamala, a panchayat employee. — UNI

Explosive materials seized from car

Kasaragod: Explosive materials were seized from an abandoned car near the border town of Kumbala here, the police said on Saturday. The explosive materials included two gelignite sticks and seven detonators besides two knives. No arrests have so far been made. — PTI

Dhanalakshmi Bank shifts to new office

KOLLAM: The Kollam branch of the Dhanalakshmi Bank will be shifting to a new premise near the Iron Bridge in the city on May 29. The branch will be located at the Gangothri Land Mark building. One goes missing

KOLLAM: One person went missing while crossing the Pulamon stream at Kottarakara on Saturday morning. Following heavy rain, the stream was in spate. The missing man was identified as Podimon. In the heavy rain, six houses have been damaged at Kottarakara. - Staff Reporter

Applications invited for music courses

KANNUR: Applications have been invited from candidates for B.A., M.A. and diploma courses in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music vocal and mridangam at the Lasya College of Music and Dance at Pilathara affiliated to the Indira Kala Sangeeth Viswa Vidyalaya. A press release here on Saturday said that candidates who passed BA could join the MA course. Those passed Plus Two or equivalent course were eligible for the BA course. Those who completed SSLC were eligible to join diploma courses. Application and prospectus could be had from the office during the working hours on cash payment and those who required it by post should send Rs.150 by money order or demand draft to the Principal, Lasya College of Music and Dance, P.O. Pilathara, Kannur - 670501. Last date for receiving the applications is June 20, the release said. — Staff Reporter

KGMCTA plea on AIIMS status

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Medical College unit of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA) has urged the State Government to consider the Kozhikode Medical College for upgrading it to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) status. — Staff Reporter
