Back Box temperature sensor

NYK Logistics (Japan), together with Oki Electric Company and the Hills Corporation, claims to have developed the world's first passive IC tag equipped with a temperature sensor. According to a report in Shipping Gazette, the tags are designed to be attached to the outside of any type of container to detect and record the temperature inside the box.

The tag has been produced for transportation and temporary storage of items such as medical and chemical products and perishables requiring temperature control. As with standard tags, the passive IC box tag too is equipped with rewritable memory in which such information as time, date of receipt/ delivery of the merchandise can be stored. The new tags will be first sent to manufacturers, distributors and logistics service providers for pilot studies before making them commercially available.
