HYDERABAD: The Government on Monday issued the much-awaited DSC (District Selection Committee)-2006 notification for recruitment of as many as 20,193 teachers to strengthen and stabilise the school system in the State at the primary level. The notification specifies a five-month process for the mass recruitment starting with the sale of applications from June 15 at the designated counters. The last date for receiving the completed applications will be July 14. The written test will be held on August 29, 30 and 31 after distribution of hall-tickets from August 18 to 22. The maximum age limit for applying for the posts has been enhanced to 36 years for open category candidates while further age relaxation is allowed over this as usual by specified number of years to the reserved sections. School Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi, who released the notification at a press conference here, said the results of the test would be announced on September 30. On the deadline for issuing posting orders to the selected candidates, which was not mentioned in the notification, the Minister and P. Krishnaiah, Secretary, School Education, said these would be released by October-end bringing the big exercise to a close. The Minister did not want to react on the fears expressed by some organisations that there might be delay in issuing the appointment letters as happened in the past, forcing the candidates to go on agitation. Ms. Rajyalakshmi said 17,647 out of 20,19 teachers being recruited were for plain areas, 2,499 for scheduled areas to serve tribal population, 26 for the schools for the blind and 21 for deaf and dumb schools. The categories covered by this recruitment were school assistants, secondary grade teachers, language pandits and physical education trainers.
Second mass recruitment
The Minister said this was the second mass recruitment of teachers undertaken by the Congress Government. Under earlier such exercises, 16,000 regular teachers and 12,000 special vidya volunteers were appointed. She listed out various steps taken by the Rajasekhara Reddy Government to improve the school system. She said "Badi Baata" had not been made part of Indiramma programme and it would be undertaken from June 1 to 16 with the aim of covering all the 3 lakh-odd children now remaining outside the purview of schools.
