Bank officer attacked; robbed of cash, jewellery

BANGALORE: Armed men attacked a bank official and his mother with stones and robbed them of Rs. 20,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs. 75,000 at their house in Subramanyapura police station limits in the early hours of Monday.

Police said that around 4 a.m., four men entered Mohan Raj's house at Vasantha Vallabha Nagar after breaking open the main door with crowbars.

As they were ransacking a wardrobe in a bedroom, Mohan Raj's mother Lalithamba (76), woke up and raised an alarm.

The robbers hit her on the head with a stone and relieved her of a gold chain and a pair of gold bangles.

They also made away with other jewellery and Rs. 20,000 in cash that were in the wardrobe.

Hearing his mother's screams, Mohan Raj, who was sleeping on the first floor, came down. The robbers hurled stones at him and ran away.

On a complaint by Mohan Raj, who works in Canara Bank's K.H. Road branch, the Subramanyapura police have registered a case.

Students robbed

Armed men robbed three students of two mobile phones and Rs. 600 at knifepoint in Viveknagar police station limits in the early hours of Monday.

Police said the incident occurred around 12.45 a.m. on Koramangala Ring Road, off Air View Point. G. Paria and his two friends, who were travelling in a car, stopped the vehicle and got down as three persons came near the car shouting for help.

As the three students alighted from the vehicle, the robbers relieved them of the mobile phones and cash at knife-point. On a complaint by Paria, the Viveknagar police have registered a case.

Rescued

The Kengeri police on Saturday rescued three women from Kolkata, who were allegedly kidnapped and held captive by a local gang.

The police said the three women had come to Salman's house in K.R. Puram here in search of jobs. On Friday night, Shaheer, against whom there is a history sheet in the Banashankari police station, and his four accomplices allegedly kidnapped the women from near the Town Hall.

After kidnapping them, Shahir demanded a ransom of Rs. 50,000 from Salman to release the women. On a tip-off, the Kengeri police raided a house in Kengeri Satellite Town and rescued the three women who were held captive there.
