Congress councillor seeks mitigation of drinking water problem

KADAPA: A Telugu Desam Party councillor Chintakunta Jayalinga Reddy of the Proddatur municipal council on Wednesday threatened to resign after accusing officials of being biased.

Mr. Reddy, 17th ward councillor, said his three-month-old representation for a road, a drainage canal and two taps in his ward was ignored by officials. He picked up a row with incharge Municipal Commissioner Srinivasulu, questioning if he was being looked down upon by virtue of being a TDP councillor. Recalling that he won the ward with the highest majority, he said he threatened to quit as he was failing to serve people who elected him.

Vice-chief's promise

A 227-point agenda was taken up at the general body meeting chaired by Municipal Chairperson Eragam Malleswari.

When the 182nd subject on the agenda came up, Mr. Jayalinga Reddy said the problem in his ward was yet to figure in the agenda.

Municipal Vice-Chairman V.S. Mukthiar intervened and assured to include the councillor's representation in the next meeting's agenda.

Admitting his failure in resolving people's problems in his ward, he said he would tender an apology to his voters and quit.

Meanwhile a Congress councillor Garisapati Lakshmi Devi alleged that while new borewells and motors were being fixed, no records were being maintained on old ones. She wanted mitigation of drinking water scarcity.

A TDP councillor Subba Rao walked out of the meeting objecting to cooption member M. Abdul Khader chanting `okay', after each agenda item was read out.
