Praise for police

The Maharashtra Police deserve to be congratulated for foiling the terrorist strike on the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. At the same time, the extent to which Islamist terrorists have spread their network in and around the country is reinforced with every such attack. India has become a soft target for terrorists, more so under the UPA regime. The repeal of POTA has contributed significantly to the image.

Though the attack cannot be brushed aside saying the saffron brigade was responsible in the first place for rising terrorism in the country, it cannot be denied that the demolition of the Babri Masjid was the turning point in the contemporary history of India. Different forms of fundamentalism feed off one another.

Mysore

It is obvious from the target that the terrorists wanted to create communal tension. The intelligence sources in New Delhi and the Nagpur police deserve special praise.

Naveen Marrapu,
Hyderabad

The attack shows the terrorists' desperation to stall the India-Pakistan peace process. Pakistan has perfected the art of holding peace talks with us, on the one hand, and providing incessant financial and moral support to the terrorists, on the other. The need of the hour is proactive action like dismantling training camps in PoK.

Rajiv Vasisth,
Jaipur

The roots of terror networks should be smashed without a trace. To do that, we need strong political will cutting across party lines.

S. Ananthi,

The article "Have we become a nation of moaners?" (June 2) is ill timed and insensitive. That the RSS and the BJP did not praise the security forces is unacceptable. In fact Narendra Modi, the favourite whipping boy of the media, has even announced a reward of Rs.10 lakh to the Nagpur police (June 2). The natural reaction of any victim of terror is expression of concern. When terrorists come calling, how else can victims react? As for the Leader of the Opposition's failures as Home Minister, one would do well to remember that the security forces thwarted the attacks on Parliament and the Akshardham temple too.
