Sudhakaran to open Environment Day celebrations

ALAPPUZHA: Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran will inaugurate the World Environment Day celebrations, organised by the public sector Foam Mattings India Ltd., Alappuzha, at a function here on June 5, managing director of the company S. Ratnakumaran has said. Alappuzha MP K.S. Manoj will preside over the function. Mr. Sudhakaran will receive the ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001: 2004 certificates recently awarded to the company by International Certification Ltd. from its representatives at the function. Mr. Ratnakumaran said Foam Mattings was the only public sector coir company to get both certifications.

Coir Board chairman A.C. Jose will deliver an address on the environmental friendly nature of coir products at the function.

Those who will offer felicitation at the function include Alappuzha Municipal Chairman P.P. Chitharanjan, Energy Conservation Society chairperson P. Shyamala, trade union leaders N.P. Vidyanandan, P. Jyothis, A.A. Shukkoor, P.V. Satyanesan and N.S. George.

P. Ajithkumar, joint director of Coir Board, will deliver a speech on the environmental aspects of coir at 2 p.m. The valedictory function will be held at 4.30 p.m. Alappuzha district panchayat president R. Nazar will deliver the valedictory address.

Mr. Ratnakumar will preside. Sculptor Kanai Kunhiraman will deliver a special address.
