Man killed, four injured in accident

The accident involving five vehicles occurred near Cauvery junction on Bellary Road

BANGALORE: One person was killed and four were injured in a accident involving five vehicles near Cauvery junction on Ramana Maharshi Road on Friday morning.

The police said that around 7.45 a.m. a car, which came from Mehkri Circle side, rammed a motorcycle that had stopped at the Cauvery junction signal.

The motorcycle, in turn, hit a van, resulting in a collision between another motorcycle and an autorickshaw that had also stopped at the signal.

The rider of the motorcycle, which was hit by the car, came under its wheels and was killed on the spot.

He was identified as Vishwanath (25), a native of Hassan district and a resident of Vidyaranyapura here.

He was a hotel employee, the police said.

The autorickshaw driver Abdul Basheer, the van driver Somashekar, and Ramesh and Ramappa who were riding the other motorcycle were injured in the incident. All the vehicles involved in the accident were damaged.

After hitting the motorcycle, the car driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away.

It is said that the car was a stolen one and the police are verifying it.

Following the accident, traffic on the busy road was affected for some time.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and got the damaged vehicles removed from the road.

The Sadashivanagar traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the car driver.
