Back Environment day

This is with reference to "The World environment day" (Business Line, June 5): The article has brought into focus power generation and energy efficiency. The government's plan for generating power from renewable sources in a big way, various steps taken for conserving and saving energy are welcome.

Design could play a very important role in energy efficiency. It could provide systems that tap solar energy, designed in a manner that minimum power isused, equip with controls for misuse and so on. Better energy-efficient designs should be encouraged by incentives. It should form part of the design of every building.
