Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to cope with the stiff resistance from the locals to its 12 million tonne steel plant project in Orissa's Jagatsinghpur district, POSCO-India, the Indian subsidiary of Korean steel maker POSCO, said on Tuesday that its project would provide direct employment to over 7,000 persons by 2010 when the first phase of the project was expected to be completed.

In a statement, the company said 97 per cent of its employees would be Indians during the first phase.
