`Lend farm loan at four per cent interest'

Staff Correspondent

Bidar: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has urged the Union Government to provide loans to farmers at four per cent interest, on the lines of the State Government's scheme. "We have introduced a system where cooperative institutions provide farm loans at four per cent interest. The State Government makes good their losses by paying them three per cent of the interest amount. Farmers can take loans up to Rs. 3 lakh. We can do this as we have control over cooperative institutions. We would like nationalised banks to provide such loans too. But we have no control over them. Therefore, we urge the Union Government to direct them to release farm loans at four per cent interest," Mr. Yediyurappa told presspersons in Bidar on Wednesday.
