Mangalore , June 15

The Karnataka Government has imposed deep-sea fishing ban in three districts of coastal Karnataka - Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada - with effect from June 15.

A Government notification said here that a 57-day deep-sea fishing ban would be effective from June 15 to August 10 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. However, trawlers can go for multi-day deep-sea fishing from August 3 with a condition that they will return to the shore only after August 10.

The notification said that the ban would be in force for 45 days (from June 15 to July 29) in Uttara Kannada district.

However, the notification has allowed the country boats to venture into sea for coastal fishing during the ban period in all the three districts. The in-bound and outbound motors, up to 25 HP, are allowed for controlling these country boats.

Those violating the ban orders will not be entitled for subsidised diesel provided by the State Government, the notification added.
