Back Aerospace sector cos form association Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 19 Industries involved in the manufacture of components and machines for the aerospace sector have come together to form the Aerospace Manufacturers Association (ASMA). The members of the ASMA, a significant number coming from Hyderabad, will provide hitech products to the country defence sector and space. Talking to newspersons in connection with the launch of the Association, Mr V.K. Saraswat, Chief Controller (R&D), Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), said the Association would be helpful in developing a potent aerospace industry. In view of the Government's shift in policy to allow private sector into defence production, the scope to increase the percentage of indigenously produced equipment could be increased. Aerospace industries would be considered as major players in doing this, Mr Saraswat said. He said the private sector industry should also get a level playing field in defence production. At present, the import of defence equipment was high, hence the greater entry of Indian private industry should help boost indigenisation.
