New Delhi, June 19

In an attempt to boost exports of leather products, the Council of Leather Exports plans to set up `leather help desks' in key overseas markets. The `help desks' would provide a platform for the marketing of Indian leather goods in markets, including Germany, the US and the UK, an Indian Leather Garments Association (ILGA) release said here. A leather help desk is already functioning in Italy. CLE is targeting an export turnover of $7 billion by 2010-12, from the current level of $2.3 billion. Other measures initiated by CLE include the formulation of a leather policy on the lines of IT and textile sectors. A Leather Design Centre was also set up earlier as a joint venture between the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the ILGA and the CLE, it said.
