Kannan XI beats Hyderabad Munsif, enters quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Kannan XI scored a 2-1 win against Hyderabad Munsif to enter the quarterfinals in the Sachdev Sports Cup football tournament at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here.

Prithvi put Kannan XI ahead in the 10th minute only to see Shoaib score the equaliser in the 20th minute. In the second session, Naresh netted the match-winner. Taqeer Ahmed was named `Player of the Match'.

In another match, Prem Raj XI also entered the last eight stage with a 6-2 win via tie-breaker against Falcon Club. Falcon took the lead in the 25th minute through substitute Hari. In the 58th minute, right-out Yousuf scored the equaliser. In the tie-breaker, Yousuf, Sashank, Arvind, Rakesh and Nitin scored for the winner while only Suman was on target for the loser.

Emphatic win for SAI

Sports Authority of India (STC, Secunderabad) scored an 8-1 win against ITRC in the Super Six hockey championship organised by Hyderabad Hockey Association at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Tuesday.

It was ITRC which took the lead in the fifth minute through centre-half Sham Sunder. But within 15 minutes, Nityajayanand converted a penalty-corner to level the scores. After that, it was SAI show all the way as G. Vijay Kumar struck once and T.N.Sudhir, M.Ajay Babu and K.Nityavijayanand twice each to seal the rivals fate.

In the B-Division league at Gymkhana Grounds, Lucky Club and Independent Club were locked in a one-all draw. Waseem Jaffer scored for Lucky outfit.

B. Dilip Yadav equalised for the opponent.

Easy for SAAP

SAAP Football Academy defeated Vijayanagar Colony 3-0 in the SAAP prize money football tournament for inter coaching centres at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Tuesday.

Tirupathi put SAAP ahead in the 15th minute of first-half. In the second session.

Pratap Reddy scored the second goal in the 41st minute and in the dying minutes Tirupati was back in the scoring act to complete the tally.

Rayalaseema posts win

Rayalaseema recorded a comfortable, 26-run win against Hyderabad in the Indira Trophy State-level women's cricket tournament at Kurnool on Tuesday, according to information received here.

The scores:

Rayalaseema 154 for three in 20 overs (Dhanalakshmi 56, Mamata Kanoja 42) bt Hyderabad 128 for five (Soujanyanath 62).
