NEW DELHI: The opening day of the DDCA Hot Weather reflected on the poor organisation as unprepared pitches greeted the teams resulting in matches lacking in competition. At the Ferozeshah Kotla, the pitch was too slow. Gush Cricket Club wisely chose to bat and put up 183 for nine in 40 overs. Delhi Gymkhana fell short by 32 runs. At the Jamia Millia College ground, overnight rain reduced the match to a 15 overs-a-side affair with Vartik Tihara making the most of it by claiming five wickets for Lal Bahadur Shastri Club, which defeated Lala Ram Charan Club by seven wickets. At the Guru Gobind Singh College ground, in a 20-overs-a-side contest, Golden Hawks beat City Gymkhana by ten wickets. Interestingly, the DDCA has supplied coloured clothing to the participating teams but the matches are being played with red ball. The scores: Gush CC 183 for nine in 40 overs (Mridul Gupta 60, Sunny Sehrawat 40, Arsh Arora three for 18) beat Delhi Gymkhana 151 in 39.1 overs (Arsh Arora 50, Arjun Juneja three for 12). Lala Ram Charan 58 in 13.2 overs (Vartik Tihara five for 12) lost to Lal Bahadur Shastri Club 62 for three in 11 overs (Karan Negi 36 not out). City Gymkhana 94 in 19.2 overs (Paramveer Singh 39, Sandeep Kumar three for 16) lost to Golden Hawks 95 for no loss in 14.3 overs (Gaurav Sharma 53 not out, K. Rawat 36).
