Okayama: A flawless front-nine coupled with a hat-trick of birdies in his backward journey were enough for Jeev Milkha Singh to finish tied sixth and take home a prize money of 3,192,500 yen in the Mizuno Open golf tournament here. Jeev, however, would be disappointed, as he needed to finish among the top four to qualify for the world's oldest major The Open championship in Royal Liverpool next month. The Indian, who started the day tied 14th, carded a three-under 69 in the final round and finished with a four-day total of eight-under 288. Meanwhile, at the top of the leaderboard, Korean S.K. Ho had a disappointing final round of one-under 71 but the performance was enough to win the title for him as he finished with a four-day total of 14-under 274. Local Tatsu Ichihara and New Zealand's David Smail were tied for the second spot with 11-under 277.
Randhawa tied 47th
A double bogey on the 13th, soon after two back-to-back birdies, proved costly for Jyoti Randhawa as he ended with a par round of 73 and an aggregate of two-under 290 at the Johnnie Walker championship at Gleneagles. The Indian finished tied 47th and earned euros 9,635, taking his total to euros 238,032. He is now joint 57th on European Order of Merit. Randhawa had a disappointing start with a bogey on second, but he steadied his play in next eight holes. He then birdied the 11th and 12th and seemed set for a good finish. But a double bogey on the very next hole dashed his hopes. He did, however, finish with a birdie for the third day in a row for a 73. The 28-year-old Paul Casey from England carded a final round of one-under 72 on the PGA centenary course venue for The 2014 Ryder Cup for a 16 under par total of 276 and victory by a shot from Denmark's Soren Hansen and Andrew Marshall of England.
Play suspended
Lightning struck TPC Avenel course with Daniel Chopra stranded at one-over after completing his 12th hole in the final round of the $ five million Booz Allen Classic at Potomac, Maryland. The Indian-born Swede had bogeyed his 12th hole and was tied for the 11th spot when play was suspended with 47 players yet to complete their rounds. At the top, American Ben Curtis was holding an eight-stroke lead with seven holes to play over Irishman Padraig Harrington, who was tied 10th at the start. Agencies
