Congress MLA seeks suspension of SI MAHABUBNAGAR: Shadnagar Congress MLA P. Shankar Rao along with villagers of Dhooskal in Farooqnagar mandal staged a dharna in front of Shadnagar police station on Saturday afternoon seeking the suspension of

Shadnagar sub inspector of police Anuradha.

Dr. Rao alleged that the SI was harassing Congress activists by registering unnecessary cases against them.

He also said that the SI, who rushed to Dhooskal village on Saturday following a complaint of group clash between TDP and congress workers, severely beat up Congress workers and villagers including aged persons.

He sought an enquiry into the incident. - Correspondent

Rs. 6 lakhs worth liquor seized, 20 persons held

NIZAMABAD: As many as 20 persons were arrested and liquor worth Rs. 6 lakh was seized across the district on the eve of polling to the local bodies, on Saturday, according to official sources.

The sources said 27 cases were booked against the accused persons and the police also seized one scooter and an autorickshaw.

All arrangements for polling on Sunday have been in place. - Staff Reporter

SP visits Chanugondla

KURNOOL: Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy visited Chanugondla village in Dhone mandal where two persons were murdered on the election day.

Mr. Reddy inquired with the villagers the sequence of events that led to the murder of two persons. The villagers requested the SP to post a police picket in the village to avoid any untoward incident. - Staff Reporter

Essay-writing contest

TIRUPATI: SV Call Centre (BPO training and placement division) will be conducting an essay-writing competition on the topic `Communication skills' for those who have passed under graduation.

Six Congress rebels expelled from party

HYDERABAD: The Ranga Reddy District Congress Committee has expelled six partymen who are contesting as rebels against official candidates for a period of six years.

Ranga Reddy DCC president K.M. Pratap, in a statement issued here on Saturday, said that the expelled leaders included Pandi Padma, contesting as independent at Pedda Amberpet in Hayatnagar mandal, Pandi Pentaiah of the same area, N. Bhoopati Reddy of Borampet, Bal Reddy, former sarpanch, Kompalli, both Qutubullapur mandal, A. Bhoopal Reddy and Siddala Dashrath, both from Jillelaguda in Saroornagar mandal. - Special Correspondent

MLA protests against arrest of partymen

KHAMMAM: CPI(M) MLA from Bhadrachalam Sunnam Rajaiah squatted in front of the office of the sub-divisional police officer in the temple town for more than an hour on Saturday protesting against the preventive arrest of party activists in different places a day before panchayat raj elections. Two labourers electrocuted

Srikakulam: T. Venkataramana, 24, and J. Venkatappadu, 25, both attending to mason work in Nimmavanipeta, were electrocuted on Saturday. According to information reaching here, there was short circuit while the masons were fitting an iron rod. Police registered a case. - Special Correspondent

BSNL employee's gesture to toppers

Hyderabad: With a view to encouraging toppers of Government Telugu and Urdu medium schools, an employee of the BSNL has come forward to present gifts. Rama Rao, Assistant Director, Telegraphs, has decided to give away gifts to 150 toppers of 25 Telugu medium and 5 Urdu medium Government schools in the city. HYDERABAD: National general secretary of the CPI A.B. Bardhan will be presented the `Outstanding Social Scientist Award' for 2006 by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the 99th birth anniversary celebrations of veteran freedom fighter Ravi Narayana Reddy here on July 9. Mr. Bardhan will deliver the Ravi Narayana Reddy memorial lecture, according to Ch. Rajeswara Rao, MLA and trust secretary, and S.
