`Chittani Yakshagana Vaibhava' on July 9

BANGALORE: Come monsoon, it is Yakshagana time in cities. On July 9, Yakshagana lovers in Bangalore can savour not one, but three Yakshagana performances.

Three performances

Titled "Chittani Yakshagana Vaibhava," the programme features three performances - "Kusha-Lava" by child artistes, "Keechaka Vadhe" by Veeranjaneya Yaksha Mitra Mandali of Chittani Ramachandra Hegde and "Krishnarjuna" by Anantha Padmanabha Yakshagana Mandali of Perdur.

The programme is being organised by well-wishers of Chittani, who is a recipient of Janapadashree Award, to raise funds to buy costumes and other material for "Veeranjaneya Mela".

The "Kusha-Lava prasanga" will see the performance of Chittani's grandsons, Karthik Chittani and Manoj Chittani, on stage for the first time.

"Kusha-Lava" directed by Hostota Manjunatha Bhagavatha will have Bhagavatha Triyambaka Hegde Idavani, P.K. Hegde and Pramod Kumar in "himmela" (backstage singers and interpreters).

Bhagavatha (Yakshagana singer) Subrahmanya Dhareshwara and Shankar Bhagavatha Yellapura form "himmela" of "Krishnarjuna" with Kannimane Ganapathi Bhat as Krishna, Shankara Hegde Neelkod as Subhadre, Seetharama Kumar as Dharuka and Ramesh Bhandari Murur as Vijaya.

Well-known Bhagavatha Kolgi Keshava Hegde, Ganapathi Bhat Bharatota, Gajanana Dharmashale, Narasimha Hegde Murur, Vighneshwara Kesarkoppa and Prashanth Bhandari form "himmela" of "Keechaka Vadhe" by Veeranjaneya Mela. Chittani will lead the stage as Keechaka with Shrepad Hegde Hadinabala as Valala, Bhaskara Joshi Shiralagi as Syrandhri, Ashok Bhat Siddapura as Sudheshne, Sanjay Beliyur as Bheema, and Prabhakara Hegde Hanajibail as Virata.

The programme will be organised at the Town Hall from 2 p.m.
