Belgaum: The city-based Indradhanushya Trust will organise "Hindustani Khayal Gayan" (vocal) competitions for amateurs here on July 29 and 30. A press release issued here on Sunday said the competitions would be held in three categories - Group A for participants aged up to 13, Group B for those aged up to 18, and Group C for all. Cash prizes and certificates would be given to winners in each category. Candidates participating in the Group A category should mention two ragas in their applications and present "chota kayaal" in any one or both as per judges' choice for a maximum of 10 minutes. In the Group B category, candidates should mention two ragas and present "bada khayaal" (slow tempo) in any one or both for a maximum of 15 minutes. In the Group C category, participants should mention three ragas and present "bada khayal" (slow tempo) in any one or both ragas for a maximum of 20 minutes, the release said. Candidates from outside Belgaum may request for accommodation in their applications and contact Shreeniwas Bhide on Ph. 9448115921 for details, according to the release. The last date of submitting applications was July 20, the release said. Prizes will be distributed to winners on August 15 during the "Spirit of India" programme to be held at the Maratha Mandir in the city.
