BANGALORE: Fans of Rajkumar will organise a memorial programme on July 20 to mark the 100th day since the death of the Kannada thespian. The daylong programme (from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.), which is being organised by Dr. Raj Atmiyara Balaga, will be held at the Town Hall here. It will include a seminar on Dr. Rajkumar's life and achievements, felicitations to eminent personalities, distribution of clothes to disabled children, presentation of prizes to winners of an essay contest for children and an acting competition for the youth.
Competitions
Giving details of the programme, Kannada actors Shivram and Ramesh Bhat told presspersons here on Thursday that the essay and acting competitions would be conducted at the Adichunchungiri Kalyana Mantapa in Vijayanagar on July 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Middle school and high school students can participate in the essay competition, Mr. Shivram said. "They can write about what they feel and think about Dr. Rajkumar." Young persons can participate in the acting competition, where they could enact a scene of about 10 minutes from a Dr. Rajkumar film or sing any of his songs, he said. President of the Balaga H. Ravindra, who is also ruling party leader in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Council, said the Balaga was in touch with schools and colleges to ensure large participation. "We will shortlist 10 toppers from among participants at these competitions and hold a final contest at the Town Hall on July 20. "The top three winners will be awarded prizes on the same day. Winners of the acting competition will perform at the Town Hall during the memorial programme," he said. Those interested in participating in the programme can dial 9880330206 or 9242517209.
