New Delhi , July 7

The Prime Minister's Office on Friday dismissed rumours that Dr Manmohan Singh was contemplating resignation in the wake of his decision on Thursday to put on hold all proposals regarding disinvestments in PSUs.

"There is no truth in such rumours... these are totally baseless and utter nonsense," Prime Minister's Media Advisor, Dr Sanjaya Baru, said.

His comments come in the wake of rumours doing the round in the stock market and in the national capital, that the Prime Minister was unhappy about the developments in the disinvestment scenario and that he may quit. The Prime Minister's meeting with the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, ahead of the weekly Congress Core Group meeting further fanned these rumours.

Later, the Core Group of the Congress met at the official residence of the Prime Minister. It is learnt that the Core Group formulated its stand on the future course of action of the UPA Government with regard to the process of disinvestment.
