Yatra against price rise flagged off

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary Vijay Goel on Friday took out a "Mehangai Virodhi Yatra" from Jama Masjid to Chandni Chowk to protest against the increase in prices of essential commodities across the country. The yatra will continue in different forms over the next two weeks.

Flagged off by Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha V.K. Malhotra, the yatra passed through Matia Mahal, Darya Ganj, Tiraha Beram Khan and Chitli Kabar and various other areas of Chandni Chowk.

Stating that the Government should take steps to bring down prices of daily items, Mr. Goel said: "The Government lacks the will to check the spiralling price rise. The Union Ministers are behaving arbitrarily and acting against the people."

Accusing the Delhi Government of not taking concrete steps to provide relief to the common man, Mr. Goel said: "By selling tomatoes and pulses in some stalls, it thinks that it has discharged its responsibilities."
