Banking hours

Sir, — Many banks now work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Saturdays when they work up to 2 p.m. It should be noted by bank customers that the core banking hours, not displayed within the bank premises, are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Such core banking hours should be displayed within the bank premises.

Stinking garbage

Sir, — Drivers of garbage trucks flout every rule in the book. On contract with Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, these trucks carry the garbage uncovered, spreading foul smell. Will the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board take action in this regard?

Relief to farmers

Sir, — I am a farmer. I welcome the reported move of the Government to ask major private companies to buy agricultural produce directly from farmers, saving them the transport cost. This would improve the profits earned by farmers. Agricultural produce is sold at high prices in major cities, but farmers are paid a pittance from wholesale dealers. The Government should think of the ways and means to reduce this gap.

Water scarcity

Sir, — The residents of Vidyamanyanagar, near Andhrahalli II Stage, are buying water. The Herohalli Gram Panchayat has not bothered to take up the issue of water scarcity in the area with the higher-ups in the Government.
