Indian revises fares

CHENNAI: Indian has revised its fares on flights on the Chennai-Kozhikode, Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai-Kochi sectors with immediate effect. According to an IA release, the revised one-way fares including passenger service fee and taxes are: Chennai-Kozhikode - Rs. 1,900, Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram - Rs. 2,200 and Chennai-Kochi - Rs. 2,200.

Transfer counselling

for teachers

CHENNAI: Transfer counselling for 2006-07 for teachers working in SC/ST welfare schools will be held here from July 14 to 17, a release here said. Counselling for headmasters in SC/ST high schools and higher secondary schools will be held at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 14. Counselling for PG teachers will be held at 10 a.m. on July 15 and for middle-level and graduate teachers at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 17. Counselling will be held at the conference hall of the Chennai Collector's office. — Special Correspondent

S.S. Chandran gets anticipatory bail

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP, S.S. Chandran, and his daughter C. Kanmani in a dowry prohibition case. Justice R. Regupathi directed them to appear before the All-Women Police Station at Thilagar Thidal here at 10 a.m. every day, except Mondays, when the MP had to appear before the Judicial Magistrate at Tiruvallur in another case.

The daughter-in-law of the MP's brother had lodged a complaint against the duo arraying them as sixth and seventh accused in the case. — Staff Reporter

Additional classrooms

PERAMBALUR: Additional classrooms at an expenditure of Rs. Six lakh will be constructed for the Middle School in Muthuservamadam near Jayamkondam.

Speaking at a function to mark the centenary celebrations of the school recently, the District Collector, Anil Meshram, said three additional

classrooms would be constructed in the school under the `Education for All' programme.

Referring to the pleas made by a few speakers on the occasion, he also assured that steps would also be taken to desilt the tanks in and around the village.

Tri-cycles

distributed

PERAMBALUR: The District Collector, Anil Meshram, distributed 40 tri-cycles to the physically-disabled persons at the Grievance Day here on Monday.

An official release issued here said the tri-cycles were donated by the Centre for Rural Education and Economic Development (CREED), a Chidambaram-based non-governmental organisation.

The District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer, Selvaraj, identified the beneficiaries, the release added. Ten more tri-cycles, also donated by the CREED, would be distributed to the needy shortly, the release added.

Meeting of cyber parlours

TIRUCHI: Consequent to the arrest of a computer engineer who was held on charges of pornographic offences and rape at his browsing centre here recently, the City Police convened a meeting with the owners of the browsing centres here on Monday to discuss about the functioning of the cyber parlours besides to streamline and regulate their functioning.

The meeting, which was convened following instruction from the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, M.S. Jaffar Sait, was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajasekaran and attended by senior city police officials.

During the meeting, the police officials advised the net centre owners to take up necessary measures, which would enable in effective monitoring.

Two killed

TIRUCHI: Two persons were killed in two different road accidents in the district on Monday. A 25-year-old motorcycle borne person died after a bus hit him at Thuvarankurichi. In the other incident a 42-year-old man died after falling from the footboard of a bus.

He was travelling in a government bus bound for Karur from Tiruchi.

TIRUCHI: The water level in the Mettur Dam stood at 107.58 feet on Monday.
