HYDERABAD: Global Hospitals here announced a technology that throws light on `the dark continent' of gastro-intestinal world, the small bowel. Anil Kumar Cherukuri of the department of Medical Gastroenterology said in a press meet that with the double balloon enteroscope, diagnosis and treatment of small bowel disorders like abdominal pain, chronic diarrhoea, malabsorption and obscure bleeding caused by ulcers and tumours would be made easy. Patients could be discharged the same day, cutting down hospitalisation bills. The tool was developed by Dr. Yamamoto and Fujinon Inc., Japan in 2004 and received the US FDA approval the same year.
