Back Spot rubber gains further

Spot rubber prices firmed up again on Wednesday. Fears of short supply due to heavy rains all over the plantations kept covering groups moderately active through out the session.

Enquiries from non-tyre sector were reported from the marketing centres. Sheet rubber moved up to Rs 101.50 and Rs 102 a kg from Rs 100.50 and Rs 100 respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

Futures weak

The rubber futures showed a weak trend on NMCE. Players seemed to be nervous as major overseas indices remained in a narrow range though ended green.

The July contract was quoted at Rs 101.25 (Rs 101.92), August Rs 103 (Rs 103.26), September Rs 101.85 (Rs 102.17) and October at Rs 99.25 (Rs 99.86) per kg for RSS 4. The August futures for RSS 3 closed at 301.6 yen (Rs 121.54) a kg against 301.5 yen at TOCOM. The grade improved by 17 paise to Rs 124.20 at Bangkok.

Spot prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4 Rs 101.50 (Rs 100.50); RSS-5 Rs 99 (Rs 98); ungraded Rs 96.50 (Rs 95.50); ISNR 20 Rs 97 (Rs 96.50); and latex 60% Rs 79.45 (Rs 78.95).
