CHENNAI: Police prohibition enforcement wing officers said on Monday that they visited Adigathur, a village near Thiruvallur, following a media report on sale of illicit liquor in an adjacent village. Women from Adigathur had complained that children were afraid to walk to the High School in Kadambathur because of the drunken men on the way. "All those responsible for the sale of illicit liquor have already been arrested," said M. Ghouse Basha, Deputy Superintendent of Police.Eight persons were arrested from Kadambathur village on July 6, he said. Bhaskar (46), Dayalan (29), Kannan (70), Kandavel (36), Dhanasingh (25), Ganesan (45), Mani (50) and Shekhar (40) are currently in jail for liquor offences.Another two, Bhaskar and Mani, who were selling illicit liquor, were arrested two days later, Mr. Basha said. Devan, a supplier from Kasavanallathur, an adjacent village, was arrested last month.The residents of Adigathur have been given phone numbers of the authorities to be called if the problem resurfaced, he said.
