CHENNAI: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday inspected the canal along Velachery bypass road as part of monsoon preparatory measures. Accompanied by senior officials, Mr. Stalin visited the Velachery lake and enquired about steps to be taken to develop the lake bund. Corporation Commissioner M.P. Vijayakumar told the Minister that the lake needed to be deepened and cleared of water hyacinth.
Interaction
Mr. Stalin then examined the canal work at Velachery bridge. He interacted with officials of Mass Rapid Transit System and State Highways Department and reviewed the progress of culvert works. Speaking to reporters, he said the visit was to find a solution for flood-prone Velachery and Madipakkam and to get an overall picture about monsoon preparedness. He said a master plan would be prepared for Velachery involving officials from the Chennai Corporation, the Public Works Department, the Highways Department and the Southern Railway.
