College student run over

CHENNAI : Two people, including a college student, died in road accidents in the city.

Police said R. Jayakumar (20), a third year student in a college in Royapettah, fell off an MTC bus on Anna Salai near Anna Statue around 8.30 a.m. Wednesday and was run over by the vehicle. He died on the spot.

Police said the Jayakumar was on the front footboard when he fell off. A native of Naraikinaru in Tuticorin, he was staying in a room on Ritchie Street. Police have arrested the MTC driver Veerakumar (41).

On Tuesday night at Mint Junction, a trailer lorry fatally knocked down an unidentified man of about 60. The accident took place around 9.30 p.m. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
