Padmapriya takes title

Mysore: Second seed A.K. Padmapriya, a ninth standard student of St. Thomas Central School, Mysore, registered an upset win over top seed Rachana R. Gowda (Mysore) 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the girls' under-14 singles title on the penultimate day of the IMS Learning Resources (P) Ltd's Karnataka State-ranking junior tennis tournament at the MTC courts here on Thursday.

Top seed Rohit R. Gowda (Mysore), recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win over seventh seed Mahesh A. Bhatija (Mysore) to clinch the boys' under-12 singles title. The Mysore pair of Vibhav M. Iyengar and M.D. Shreyas combined well to register a 6-3, 6-2 win over H.J. Prajwal and Varun Gopal (Mysore) in the final to clinch the boys' under-16 doubles title.

The results: Girls U-14 singles (Final): A.K. Padmapriya (Mys) bt Rachana R. Gowda (Mys) 6-4, 6-4.

Semifinals: Rachana bt Swathi H. Kumar (Tmk) 6-1, 6-2; Padmapriya bt T.D Dhruthi (Mys) 6-3, 6-3.

Girls U-16 singles (Semifinals): Rachana R. Gowda bt C.B. Tejashwini (Mys) 6-1, 6-2; A.K. Padmapriya bt T. Dhruthi (Mys) 6-0, 6-0.

Boys U-12 singles (Final): Rohit R. Gowda (Mys) bt Mahesh A. Bhatija (Mys) 7-5, 6-4.

Semifinals: Rohit bt Prajwal Dev (Mys) 6-3, 6-2; Mahesh bt Suraj R. Prabodh (Mys) 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
