Visakhapatnam, July 21
The Andhra University is introducing an MBA (retail management) course from the current academic year, the first university to do so in South India, according to Prof L. Venugopala Reddy, the Vice-chancellor. "Organised retailing is only 2 per cent in India, much lower than in most other Asian countries, and it is growing at 35-40 per cent per annum. In view of the positive trend and the employment potential of the sector, we thought it fit to introduce the course," he said. The course will be of two years duration and the fee is Rs 25,000 per annum. The number of seats is 24 in addition to the management quota (six). The admissions will be made through centralised online counselling conducted by the AP Council for Higher Education beginning on Saturday. Details can be obtained by accessing www.andhrauniversity. info.
