Security being tightened at Kashi, Mathura

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: After seeking permission from the Supreme Court to tighten security in Ayodhya and place bullet proof screens to protect the idol of Ram Lala, the Centre is going ahead with its plans to strengthen security arrangements in and around the Kashi and Mathura shrines.

Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal told reporters on Friday that security arrangements would be further strengthened at Kashi, the site of the Vishwanath temple and the Gyan Vapi mosque and Mathura, the site of Krishna janambhoomi that is adjacent to a mosque. He said security arrangements were being beefed up on proposals sent by the Uttar Pradesh government in October last.
