HYDERABAD: The Government has formed a committee to decide the formation of a Town Planning Tribunal to deal with unauthorised constructions in the twin cities and it is likely to become operational in a few months.

Chief City Planner B. Purushottama Reddy informed members of the MCH Standing Committee at a weekly meeting.

Shortage of staff

The CCP is a member of the committee and modalities were being worked out on the penalties to be imposed on illegal constructions. He was answering a query on action taken by the MCH on such constructions in the last one-year.

The Standing Committee also demanded shifting of eight personnel for rent bill collection because of the shortage there.

Of the sanctioned 14 rent bill collectors, only six are left while the collection for the first quarter this year has been a dismal Rs. 20 lakhs as against the expected annual collection of Rs.3.25 crores.

Responding to a demand made by Seelam Prabhakar and other members, Mayor T. Krishna Reddy agreed to seek induction of more staff for collecting rents from markets and shopping complexes.
